Creation of an authomatized database of bibliographic information about mental health

Abstract:

An investigation was carried out to create a computerized database of bibliographic information about mental health, with the main purpose of giving support both to the people who require specialized information and to the researchers who need to divulgate their work findings. The objective was to integrate a structured and systematized base about the research carried out in Mexico. The database includes more than 4000 registers of papers published between 1968 and 2000. In order to support its divulgation, six bibliographic guides and two cd-rom were elaborated to facilitate a better access to information. The database created is already a basic reference source for researchers, students and people interested in the subject. The obtained results fulfill two main functions: to create a better access to information and to provide an index of the amplitude and scope of the national scientific production in the matter of mental health.
