Cultivation programming of Polianthes tuberosa

Abstract:

The objective of this study is to grow" nardo"(Polianthes tuberosa L.) year around under mediterranean climatic and cold glasshouse conditions. We chose the double-flowered and white coloured variety" Excelsior". Several planting dates were tested using different plant density and bulb sizes. Bulbs obtained from previous tests,(previously thickened), were used when it was difficult to get plant material for the cultivation cycle. Evaluation of plant parameters gave some evolution with respect to harvesting. The spring-summer cultivation cycle has the advantage in relation with the others that it produces a higher yield with a lower number of days needed to for harvesting.
