Current trends for the use of mitomycin C in pterygium treatment
Abstract:
Mitomycin-C is a drug which is used for pterygium treatment to reduce its recurrence. We have done a review of current tendencies in the use of Mitomycin-C in this entity, such as indications, contraindications and complications. The use of Mitomycin-C is recommended in patients who have recurrent pterygium without any other corneal or conjunctival disturbances. There are many forms to use it, but the intraoperative way is more effective and safe. The most recommended dosage is 0.02% to 0.04%. It is necessary to define a protocol for the use of Mitomycin-C because it causes serious postoperative complications.
