Curse of the abundance (II Part): Sinking of the alimentary security in Venezuela (1999-2018)
Abstract:
From the scandinavian and venezuelan debate on the curse of abundance, it is proposed to analyze the problems of economic absorption based on the available evidence on venezuelan food security during chavismo. The performance of the projects in the years of abundance is compared with other similar nations in the region, also, signs of liquidity, public spending and the proportion of public policies, prior to the fall in oil prices, are compared to the food security results. Evidence is presented in favor of explaining the extreme food security problems of access and availability as a result of economic absorption problems rather than oil prices decline, which is argued in the official discourse. In this II part, additionally, there is a debate on the need for a new democratic hermeneutics that highlights the inherent threats of unbridled abundance in society.
