Abstract:
The bridge selected for the study and design of the substructure is the Naranjal Bridge No. 1 (Pna1) belonging to the Flood Control Naranjal Project. This protection work involves the construction of a system of longitudinal dikes channeling. The change of the bridges is necessary in order to become the elements that dammed the water like water upstream and produce embalming in a low slope area which contributes to flooding along the Naranjal River and its main tributaries: the Cañas, Jesús María, San Francisco, Gramalotal, Chacayacu, and Bucay. Therefore, the project will prevent the increase of flow which flood the rivers and occur flooding in the cities and towns close as well as crops and productive areas of the region (SENAGUA) In the design of a bridge, the main issue is usually the type of foundation that it is going to be used. According to soil characteristics and based on the loads of the superstructure,we can choose the most suitable foundation. We define foundation as a set of structural elements which are responsible to transmit the loads of the superstructure to the ground, so the importance of the foundation, as a good foundation, depends on the safety and good behavior of a structure under the action of loads. The study of the methods of calculation and design of the piers and abutments is necessaryto take into consideration that during our career, we have not received a specific study of these elements. For this reason, it is interesting to address this topic to develop a design guide. In our country nowadays, it is opting for this type of bridges.
