Cáncer de tiroides y diabetes mellitus en el Centro Clínico Quirúrgico Ambulatorio Hospital del Día Central Loja en el periodo 2010 a 2015

Abstract:In order to determine the relationship between thyroid cancer and diabetes mellitus, the present study quantitative, observational, retrospective, and transverse study was performed at the Centro Clínico Quirúrgico Ambulatorio Hospital del Día Central Loja, during the period 2010 to 2015, through the review Of 93 clinical histories of patients with histopathological diagnosis of thyroid cancer. Once the data were collected and tabulated, the following results were obtained: 89.2% of patients with thyroid cancer are female. Thyroid pathology occurred more frequently in the age group of 46 to 65 years old, representing 66.7%. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in patients with thyroid cancer was 13%. Papillary thyroid cancer was the most frequent in patients with diabetes mellitus representing 9,7% and predominating in diabetes tipo 2 with 8,6%, in addition to being the only type of cancer found in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, representing 1.1%. Through Chi-square analysis and using a 95% confidence interval, a p-value of 0.3 was obtained which determines that there is no statistical relationship between these two pathologies.
