DELFOS electronic patient record in Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery
Abstract:
Introduction: The interest in electronic patient records has grown significantly in recent years. In Cuba there is no system of electronic patient records in pediatric cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. Objective: To design and implement a software tool to manage all the information of the patients treated at the National Pediatric Cardiology Network, to support managerial, clinical, teaching and research decision making. Method: FileMaker Pro 11 software was used. A system of independent modules, connected in real time and covering from admission to follow-up and rehabilitation, was scheduled cooperatively with users. Data entry is validated, and the calculations are performed automatically and displayed in charts. A server was used to share the system with all the departments of the hospital and on the web, with access and authentication permissions. Results: A high level of use was achieved. The time to obtain reports and other outputs was reduced, with greater reliability, organization and satisfaction of the end users, compared to printed medical records. The information can be exported to PDF or EXCEL. Accesses to Internet links are provided. The final version was registered at the National Copyright Center with the number 2411 from 2012. Conclusions: DELFOS is a multiuser software tool which is easy to use, and enables a secure, fast, stable and efficient recording, processing and real-time retrieval of patient’s data, and its use in clinical practice.
