DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN POTENTIAL THROUGH JOB SKILLS IN THE INFORMAL TEXTILES AND APPAREL SECTOR

Abstract:

People working in the informal textile and garment sector present atypical trajectories that make them face exclusion, marginalization and deterioration of their quality of life; hence the need for them to develop labor competencies to improve their employability. The improvement or development of these competencies will make it easier for them to move towards formality, maintain decent employment and generate lifelong learning processes. The objective of the research is to design a procedure for the development of human potential by competencies in the informal textile and clothing sector in the province of Tungurahua, as a way to transition to formality. The research was conducted under a mixed, descriptive and cross-sectional approach. Interview, survey and document review techniques were used for data collection. The results show that the members of the informal textile and apparel sector have little access to training, have no voice and representation in the sector in which they work, most have a low level of training and poor development of basic, managerial, individual, cross-cutting and professional competencies.
