Abdominal hemangiopericytoma: radiological and clinical findings; Hemangiopericitoma abdominal: hallazgos radiologicos y clinicos
Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to analyze the radiological and clinical findings in patients with abdominal hemangiopericytoma. We present seven patients with hemangiopericytoma located in abdomen. In four cases, the origin was found to the digestive tract three in jejunum and one in stomach; the remaining three originated in the retroperitoneum. All were studied with plain radiography and ultrasonography; color doppler ultrasound was performed in two, computerized tomography in six and complete intestinal transient study in four. A number of similar and nonspecific radiologic signs are pointed out: a well-defined, rounded, heterogeneous mass with a necrotic, cystic central region, as well as the presence in three cases of small intratumoral spotted calcifications; similar calcifications appeared in the metastases that developed later on in another two patients. The most significant clinical features was the palpation of a pain-ful tumor. The hemangiopericytoma should be included in the differential diagnosis of hyper vascular retroperitoneal tumors: The hemangiopericytoma should be included in the differential diagnosis of hyper vascular retroperitoneal tumors; despite its being extraordinarily uncommon, it should also be included among the tumors of the digestive tract that present signs of malignancy.
