De «La Moraleja» a «La Milagrosa»: apuntes de viaje por España [Notas y comentarios]

Abstract:

The Ecuadorian stresses, in his chronicle during a recent trip through Spain, the nuances that the immigrants confer to that country, in these times of massive displacements. With an observer’s eye, he reviews the tensions between the local and foreign cultures (Romanians, people of several Latin American countries), the noticeable inequalities on visiting the exclusive neighborhoods, locked within themselves, such as Madrid’s «La Almudena», (which shares its name with its huge cemetery). En route towards Pamplona, Soria’s cuisine is highlighted as well as its public homage to the poets Antonio Machado and Gerardo Diego. In Pamplona, the clash of local traditions with those brought by the migrants is more strongly felt, as well as the thrust of globalization, which seeks to launch the region towards the future, facing the resistance and its attachment to the traditional. As part of the landscape, are told of Ecuadorians who live and work there almost from dawn to dusk, who dream about returning to the country and who almost most certainly will remain there in the future.
