Definition of minimum accessibility criteria for the construction of web applications

Abstract:

Based on the need to increase the number of users who access and consume the contents of the web in an adequate way, in this article we propose as a contribution a set of minimum accessibility criteria obtained from the Colombian Technical Standard NTC 5854, which aim to support designers and developers to start including accessibility in the web application development process. Additionally, a tool for conducting accessibility inspections was built, which allows the statistical and graphic analysis of the inspection results, so that it is easier to identify the accessibility principles and criteria that are not adequately met in a web portal. As a case study, an accessibility inspection was carried out on the portal of the Popayán mayor’s office, taking into account the defined criteria and the implemented tool.
