Dehispanisation, nordomania and the decolonial turn. Past and contemporary crossroads of Hispano- America

Abstract:

With this paper, we aim to contribute to clarifying the long-term political drifts in which the Latin American region is immersed, at least in a certain sense. We begin by evaluating the critical perspectives opened up by the "decolonial turn" and by the many studies related to "coloniality". However, we will at the same time introduce a nuance which we deem essential. We refer to the probable and problematic validity of that idea which, as dealt with by many Latin American intellectuals of the nineteenth century, considered the following hypothesis: complete emancipation and true progress will only be achieved by way of an intense process of de-latinisation or, more specifically, of de-hispanisation.
