Democracia, ideología y partidismo en perspectiva transnacional: Evidencia del voto migrante de cubanos y peruanos en y desde Ecuador (1979 – 2018)

Abstract:

This paper analyzes the migrant vote of the Cubans and Peruvians in Ecuador from a transnational perspective, taking as a reference the migratory waves between 1979 and 2018. Through the theoretical concepts such as democracy, ideology and partisanship, is examined the process of political resocialization and the electoral participation of migrants in their destination country. In the case of Cuba, the resocialization process is marked by the communist regime that governs the island, manifested in apolitical or skeptical positions regarding the democratic system of the country of destination can be observed. On the other hand, Peruvian migrants have a resocialization process that responds to a real integration in the destination society or to an electoral participation that they carry out for a civic formality.
