Absolute and relative economic values of some biological characters in Zuliano bovine dual-purpose systems
Abstract:
To evaluate the absolute and relative economic values of some biological traits in a dual-purpose cattle system in Zulia state, Venezuela, the Ecoanalisis DP methodology was performed at a particular farm located in Perija municipality. It showed that the economic value of calving interval and age at first parturition were -384,70 and -124,80 Bs./cow, respectively. Hence, it is important to pay attention to reproductive efficiency, in order to increase beef and dairy productivity and to reduce the unit costs. Also, it is convenient to review the economic value of lactation length in dual-purpose systems. An increase of one-liter milk/cow/day represents 24,688.90 Bs./cow. However, feasibility of increments in production/cow will depend on diet adequacy and the supplementation cost/benefit ratio.
