Abstract:

Results Fibrinogen receptor expression and thrombin receptor internalization are increased in women compared with that in men with ACS. PAC-1 percentage-bound: 60713 for women vs. 47719* for men; WEDE percentage-bound: 9375 for men vs. 8778* for women; SPAN percentage-bound: 64713 for men vs. 51713* for women (* Po0. 02). Patients with ACS have increased fibrinogen receptor expression compared with non-ACS patients (52718 vs. 21717, respectively, P= 0.0001). Platelet–monocyte binding is increased in patients with ACS (53723% of monocytes with bound platelets vs. 30717% in non-ACS patients, P= 0.017) but gender differences do not exist. Conclusions At the time of presentation with ACS, women have increased platelet activation. Treatments aimed at reducing platelet activation are likely to be more effective in women than in men. Our results suggest that therapies to reduce platelet …
