Abstract:

The possible existence of races of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. dianthi in commercial carnation greenhouses was evaluated. Isolates were collected from different locations and cultivaxs during three successive years. In all, 24, 20 and 22 isolates were collected in the first, second and third year, respectively. Spore suspensions were prepared from each isolate. Rooted stem cuttings of four cultivars were inoculated with the spore suspensions and planted in tuff (crushed volcanic stones), an artificial substrate. Wilt reaction was recorded 60--80 days after inoculation. Cultivars' Fantasia','Raggio di Sole','Elsy'and'Pallas' were susceptible to all races, viz., race 2, race 1 and race 4, respectively.
