Desarrollo de la huella de carbono corporativa como indicador ambiental en la empresa Novacero S.A. Planta Lasso

Abstract:

The carbon mark is a quantitative index of carbon emissions, because of its wide field of application it is considered as a tool for the mitigation of climate change, contributing to the direction of processes of decision-making to policy of interventions. The aim of NOVACERO A.S. Lasso Plant is to become a sustainable company; however, it does not have a mitigation plan to face the climate change. This is the reason why the company pretends to implement a strategy for identifying the sources of emission of GHG (Greenhouse Gases), including the carbon mark as a main indicator to analyze reduction actions. Consequently this project requires to include the corporative carbon mark as a strategically tool for the development of mitigation actions of climate change by the application of the GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gases Protocol), a specific methodology for the calculation of emissions from steel production. The main results of this study estimates a corporate carbon mark of 100.326,53 tons of C02 equivalent in 2013, where most of emission activities correspond to the consumption of electricity and the consumption of fuel because of permanent combustion sources. The consumption of electrical energy is the main contributor with a 44 percent on total emissions, followed by the consumption of fuels with 23 percent. Therefore, these sectors were identified as points of key intervention for the plan and prioritization of mitigation strategies.
