Academic network design with QoS criteria

Abstract:

Universities and higher education centers, due to their functional structure, have become places where different topologies and technologies of communication networks can be found. What demands a harmonized management of the infrastructure, not only in the attention to the common problems of the users, but in the performance of the data transmission network. The objective of this research is to propose a topological design with redundant and efficient links that improve performance, based on QoS (Quality of Service), for networks that have a heterogeneous structure from the perspective of growth. Different QoS mechanisms are analyzed in a simulated campus network in Opnet Modeler, to verify which mechanism works best, obtaining as a result that the Weighted Fair Queueing (WFQ) mechanism is the most indicated.
