Abstract:

The aim of the present work was to determine the concentration of δ-tocotrienol and -tocotrienol in different extracts of Bixa orellana seeds collected in 4 different locations in the southern region of Ecuador (Loja and Zamora Chinchipe), through the application of an analytical method in GC-MS. The developed method complies with the established parameters of linearity (δ-tocotrienol (r2= 0,9992), -tocotrienol (r2= 0,9996)), limit of detection (δ-tocotrienol 5,86 ng/uL, -tocotrienol 1,04 ng/uL), and limit of quantification (δ-tocotrienol 8,10 ng/uL, -tocotrienol 1,50 ng/uL). The accuracy was determined through repeatability and reproducibility whose results were lower than 10% and 15%, respectively. The accuracy of the method was evaluated through the recovery where for δ-tocotrienol it was between 90% -119%, and for -tocotrienol between 93% -120%. The method was applicable for the areas of Jamboé, Los Encuentros, El Podocarpus (Zamora Chinchipe) and Paltas (Loja). As a final result it was obtained that the area with the highest average concentration of δ-tocotrienol was: Los Encuentros with 62,2889 ng / uL; while the area with the highest average concentration of -tocotrienol was: El Podocarpus with 11,0660 ng / uL.
