Design and Comparison by Simulation of PI and SMC Controllers Applied to a Three Phase Inverter Connected to the Grid

Abstract:

This paper presents the design and comparison by means of simulation of PI (Proportional Integral) and SMC (Sliding Mode Control) controllers applied to a three-phase inverter connected to the grid. A three-phase inverter of 0.5 MW of power is designed and modeled, including the LCL filter, the modulator and the grid synchronization system. Subsequently, the designs of the PI and SMC controllers are made. The results are validated by simulation in Simulink/MATLAB. The tests verify the control of active and reactive power injection into the grid, even in the event of disturbances (voltage dips). At all times the injected current complies with the IEEE519 standard. Finally, an analysis of the performance of the controllers is carried out in steady and transient states.
