Design and Development of an Efficient Power-Generating Revolving Door


Abstract:

Electrical power can be considered as one of the most important resources especially in our modern world. This study was conducted in order to research a potential alternative way of producing renewable electrical power: a power generating revolving door. The revolving door will operate with the same principle as a turbine but harnesses the energy applied by a person instead of a fluid. A small-scale prototype was designed, constructed, and tested to gauge the revolving door's potential at being a possible source of renewable energy. By the end of the study, the researchers were able to determine the various factors affecting the power generating door's performance and compute for the different door efficiencies. It was found that using the revolving door for energy storage, like with batteries, is the more practical application of the revolving door as compared to using it to directly supply energy to a load as demonstrated by the data collected.
