Design and Implementation of Traffic Balancer over Overlay Networks with Vxlan Tunneling

Abstract:

These days networks are and important characteristic in the daily life and this makes users experience a goal that must be reached in order to keep this in complete operation. Load balancing methods help improve performance, availabitlity, reduce delays and avoid congestions as well. In the present work, the use of overlay networks with Vxlan tunnels is proposed to balance traffic between them, the load balancing is carried out through an SDN network in the data plane. This type of proposal represents an alternative with routing problems which the routing protocols are not efficient enough at the moment of balancing traffic through several links, software-defined networks represent an economical and efficient system, they proceed to achieve maximum resource utilization and reduced transfer times with results that show load balancing with overlay networks decreases access times. The main contribution of this work is the application of a load balancer in overlay networks based on SDN to decrease latency.
