Design and implementation of a soft start induction motor monitor station with power factor improvement
Abstract:
This work presents the development and implementation of a soft start induction motor monitor station for one or more three phase squirrel-cage induction motors in an industrial environment, with power factor improvement. This system reduces the negative effects of a direct sharp motor start, saves energy due to the power factor improvement in steady state operation, specially in those cases when the motor is working under nominal values of power and torque, and keeps useful motor information for the user. The system includes a server, installed in a IBM or compatible Personal Computer, the remote cards, based on the 8751 microcontroller, and a newly designed AC/AC converter, implemented with IGBTs.
