Design of a 10-Port MIMO Antenna for 5G/WiFi Indoor Base Station Applications


Abstract:

A 10-port wide-band cavity-backed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with decagonal shape is presented for 5G/WiFi indoor base stations applications. For the design of the antenna a methodology based on sector unit cells is employed dividing the whole design in 10 equivalent sectors and only analyzing two cells for the pbkp_rediction of the whole design performance. The proposed antenna has a total size of π×228.852×37.27 mm3 (π×1.632λ2×0.49λ, at central frequency f=fc=3.9 GHz). The antenna is composed by 10 independent ports with 15 dB of minimum isolation and an impedance bandwidth (S11 <-10 dB) of 130% (1.37-6.5 GHz). Simulated results show unidirectional radiation pattern, a total efficiency higher than 86% and low envelope correlation coefficient (ECC).
