Design of a dynamic matrix control system for a battery charger

Abstract:

This paper presents the design and implementation of a battery charger of a photovoltaic panel based on Model Pbkp_redictive Control (MPC). The design of buck DC-DC converter using Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC) is presented. The proposed control is responsible for regulating the solar panel power flow (i.e., voltage and current coming from the solar panel) to perform the suitable and efficient charging process of the Energy Storage System (ESS) consisting of a lead-acid Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery. A comparison between the proposed control and a traditional PID control is presented at simulation level, whereas the performance of the proposed control is experimentally validated through its implementation at the Electrical and Electronics Laboratory of Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE, Sangolquí-Ecuador.
