Design of a mini hydroelectric power plant


Abstract:

In the present work, a proposal for the design of a mini hydroelectric power plant is made to supply the demand of the electricity consumption of the Flower Growing Company “Plantaciones Malima Cía. Ltda.” As a case study. The first step is to determine the range of available flow of the Paute River, the specific consumption of each of the systems, equipment and electromechanical devices that the company has is studied. Once with this information, the sizing calculation of several constituent parts of the generation system is done, to mention some such as the sand trap, the loading chamber, the pressure pipe, the turbine and other necessary subsystems. Finally, the estimated cost of the installation is analyzed and the internal rate of return for the period of useful life of the hydroelectric plant is calculated. The results obtained determine the feasibility of the project and the benefits that the company could have when implementing a hydroelectric power generation plant.
