Design of a piping system to measure constant accessories
Abstract:
The values of the constant accessories are huge importance to calculate the hydraulic losses in a pipeline system when a fluid is transported, i.e., the flow rates, diameters, lengths and load losses can be determined in sections considering the characteristics of fluid. Here, we analyze the water hardness to choose the most appropriated material for pipes and fittings, which allows the design and construction of an appropriated pipe system. With the system in operation, the pressure is measured before and after the passage through the different accessories, thus, the pressure losses of constants are computed by using the Bernoulli equation. To validate the values of the constants on the different accessories of the proposed system, we compare the data with the values reported in the literature (90°Elbow, check valve, ball valve, butterfly valve and T). Furthermore, a reasonable relative error percentage of 9.73 %, 12.24 %, 19.88 %, 16.48 % and 19.32 % respectively, is observed. The latter can be attributed to the points at which the data are taken could be not adequate. With this in mind, the proposed system can be improved by changing the experimental set up or measurement instruments. However, this work can be employed as a useful instructive guideline for future.
