Design, Fabrication and Testing of a Pressurized Resistance Heating Kiln for Ceramics
Abstract:
This paper discusses the process of designing, testing and fabricating a unique electric kiln, used in pottery making, with an air compressor to aid in the firing process so that the firing time and cost may be reduced. Using the testing procedures and formulas provided by the Department of Science and Technology's Rural Technology and Information Division [1], the study has shown an improvement in the earthenware's porosity and water absorptivity when firing with the compressor. Also, firing schedules for the kiln fabricated, with and without the compressor were obtained.
