Deterioro cognitivo moderado en adultos mayores : programa de estimulación potencializando procesos mentales

Abstract:

At present it has been demonstrated that at the geriatric level occupational therapy as science and discipline presents a wide field to explore and to work. Faced with the demand for the various difficulties in functional performance and social interaction, our intervention as health professionals can be applied in a wide variety of areas to contribute to the improvement of these needs that are presented and that many times the relatives and the Own elder unknown. Isolation, depression, lack of attention, memory loss easily affect the performance areas of the older adult and their behavior in general. The specific causes of these disorders are unknown, but there are factors that together with other diseases of the elderly with lead to progressive cognitive impairment. It is relevant to determine what type of cognitive level the older adult presents, considering the three types: low, medium and high and how these affect in their daily life. This disorder also affects interpersonal and learning relationships: at the level of cognitive, motor and social processes, which causes the older adult not to participate in an optimal way as other people do. There are methods, techniques and activities for therapeutic purposes that will allow a better development of cognitive skills and abilities, especially attention, memory and participation, to achieve the highest level of independence possible.
