Determination of molecular weight distribution of lignin derivatives by aqueous phase high performance size exclusion chromatography (HPSEC)

Abstract:

Several lignin derivatives were analyzed by aqueous phase High Performance Size Exclusion Chromatography (HPSEC): Calibration and sample analysis were carried out with a Superosa 12 HR column (30 cm × 10 mm i.d.) purchased from Pharmacia. The mobile phase was a sodium hydroxide solution containing other electrolytes, such as NaCl, LiCl, and Na4P2O7. Sodium polystyrene sulfonate standards were used for calibration. The optimum mobile phase for analyzing samples with average molecular weight of 7050, 1858, 7867 daltons was found to be 0.1 M sodium hydroxide with NaCl 0.15 M solution, solution for lignins from sugar cane bagasse spent liquor and for comercially available lignin derivatives(AT indulin and W-1 indulin). © WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH, D-69451 Weinheim 2000.
