Determination of phosphates in fertilizers by mid-infrared spectroscopy with Fourier transform in the Attenuated Total Reflectance mode


Abstract:

The present work evaluates the real potential of FTIR spectroscopy (in the middle IR), measuring attenuated total reflectance in aqueous medium, for the determination of phosphate in products of agricultural use (NPK fertilizers with a P2O5 content ranging between 7 and 55 % (w/v)). For this purpose a simple, direct and ecological method is developed in which the analyte quantification is carried out in the form of HPO42-, at pH 10, using the IR band centered at 1078.75 cm-1. The results obtained are consistent with statistical criteria.
