Development of System for Monitoring and Geopositioning for Cattle Using IoT

Abstract:

Commercial solutions for tracking cattle position and temperature for detecting cattle health are expensive and only affordable for owners of a high quantity of cattle, so an affordable solutions for small ranches was developed. This work shows the design, development implementation and test for the measurement of temperature and geoposition for cattle. The developed system used a Pycom device using a LPWAN protocol, which has the capability to integrate WiFi, Figfox, Bluetooth, FiPy, LTE, but LoRa was the selected choice under the micro Python language for developing the final node and the Gateway. The Pybytes was the used web platform where the temperature and GPS position data were received and integrated in webhooks, then the user was notified using the Telegram program. The system was successfully validated using ten nodes, obtaining the temperature and GPS location for cattle, so the prototype solution cost is 810 USD.
