Development of a Settlementmeter for the Control and Monitoring of Embankments Through the Use of Artificial Intelligence
Abstract:
The current study presents a methodology to monitor the behavior of embankments in addition to the development and implementation of an on-site settlementmeter in a given study area. This equipment is a portable system of easy installation, connection and operation that fulfills the specific function of monitor the vertical movement (settlement) of the soil in embankments. The electronic system includes two sensors, the operating equipment and an anchor spider. The sensor captures the orthogonal distance in millimeters or centimeters, from the reference point where it is placed to the bottom of the ground and is coupled to the anchor spider, the same ones that are inserted into a hole with a diameter of 4 in. that a once the spider plates are anchored to the ground. Through an LCD screen that is part of the operating equipment, the respective value of the length can be manually observed and recorded, thus initiating the control and monitoring of possible progressive settlements in a previously established time interval. Each of the elements of this geotechnical instrumentation is secured in a protective casing made of PLA material to prevent any damage from climate change.
