Development of a therapeutic device to minimize epilepsy seizures

Abstract:

This paper presents the design and development of a non-invasive device that provides electrical pulses by placing electrodes connected to the Vagus Nerve of the neck to try to reduce seizures in epileptic patients. For its construction, by means of a technological analysis, all the parameters, characteristics and norms were obtained with which the existing devices in the international market that stimulate the Vagus Nerve in a non-invasive way. To facilitate interoperability between the user and the team, a friendly graphical interface has been designed by means of a mobile application installable on any Android phone. Finally, the waveform and the stimulation parameters of the generated electric current, obtained in the real measurements with the oscilloscope, were compared with the proposed and calculated data, in order to corroborate that all the stipulated characteristics for the manufactured stimulating system were comply.
