Diagnosis of hemotropics Anaplasma marginale, Trypanosoma spp. and Babesia spp. by elisai and PCR techniques in three livestock farms of Pastaza Province, Ecuador


Abstract:

Hemotropic diseases affect animals living in tropical and subtropical areas of the world, due to the presence of transmitting vectors of agents such as ticks and hematophagous flies. Within this group of diseases are the anaplasmosis, trypanosomosis and bovine babesiosis which adversely affect livestock production, it is therefore accurate diagnosis allows the control and rational treatment of these diseases. In Ecuador, these diseases have been under studied, so the aim of this study was to prospect the presence of these hemotropics in the Province of Pastaza. For this, three farms were evaluated, located in the Amazon region of Ecuador, Pastaza Province, where diagnosis of anaplasmosis and trypanosomosis by ELISAi and babesiosis using the PCR test were performed. In this hemotropics evaluation, 65.5 % prevalence of anti-MSP5r Anaplasma marginale antibodies; 31.03 % anti Trypanosoma spp. by ELISAi and 0 % for Babesia spp. by PCR were obtained. There wasn't found a correlation between the presence of antibodies (anti A. marginale or Trypanosoma spp.), the hematocrit and total proteins, no significant differences in anti-MSP5r antibodies with the presence or absence of ticks on farms were observed. In conclusion, the high seroprevalences of Trypanosoma spp. and A. marginale in the area under study, and therefore the establishment of control measures is eminent. Another important aspect to highlight is to have found farms without ticks and anti-MSP5r antibodies presence, indicating the possible presence of other vectors in this area.
