Differences in the eating behavior of Cavia porcellus determined by its sex
Abstract:
The guinea pig (GP) (Cavia porcellus) is a rodent mammal native to the Andean zone of Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Bolivia. It is a native food product of low production cost, which contributes to the food security of the population. With this research, knowledge is provided to the scientific community; and, it is evident how behavioral factors can depend on both instinctual and environmental elements, and, in addition, how these behaviors can be modified when knowing their operation. Knowledge about the differences in feeding behavior between the sexes of C. porcellus can enhance appropriate management techniques to intensify their production. The relevance of this study is that the quality of life of the animal, the economy and the nutrition of the population can be improved. The results of the study conclude that there are no differences in the feeding behavior of GP in relation to their sex.
