Dinámica de población de Thrips tabaci Lindeman (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) en ajo (Allium sativum L.).

Abstract:

Eleven experimental garlic plots were sowed during three consecutive years in two provinces of Cuba; namely La Habana and Holguín in order to study the population dynamics of Thrips tabaci, its main pest. It was checked that this insect manifests a similar behavior under the conditions of the two regions where it was studied. Occurrence is different according to the sowing date and its populations increase with the phenologycal development of the plants. Also, proper climate conditions of the period in which the crop is developed favour them. Correlation analyses carried out between the population and climatic variables demonstrated the negative effect of rein and relative humidity while a po¬sitive effect was observed as to the phenology in relation to population increase. The natural enemies found were the bug Orius insidiosus in La Habana and a phytoseid mite in Holguín, which contributed to the reduction of higher densities of thrips in some of the plots in the experiment.
