Disappearing monopoles?

Abstract:

In many cases solitons are stable classically because of a certain topological conservation law. It is pointed out, however, that carrying topological charge does not necessarily imply soliton stability on the quantum level. The possibility that grand-unified-theory monopoles might be unstable in the QCD vacuum is discussed. © 1983.
