Actitudes y conocimientos sobre la donación de órganos de los estudiantes de la Universidad de Cuenca. Cuenca 2014

Abstract:

Objective: Determinate attitudes and knowledge toward organ donation of students in University of Cuenca in March in 2014. Methods and materials: the study is Quantitative and descriptive. All our participants were chosen from a universe of 15800 students, independent of sexual, ethnical or economic condition, with the only conditions that they were enrolled in any of the different carriers of this university. The method used in this study was the individual inquest. Results: 374 persons were respondent. The average age was 23 years old. The 80% respondent said that they consider their information about organ donation is insufficient, despite the 67% will donate a organ voluntarily. The religion that predominates is catholic although the 49.8% do not know about the official pronouncement of catholic church about the organ donation. Only the 1% will decline about donate an organ for religious motives, indeed, the opinion of a boyfriend, husband, girlfriend or wife represent the 18% declines. Only the 44% know about death brain. When we asked about who will solicit the organ donation to relatives, the people answered that they will be calmed if the doctor who treated the person is who do this request. Conclusions: the religious factor does not have influence when a person take the decision about donate an organ. We also conclude that the biggest information media to know about the organ donation is the TV, despite the knowledge about brain death even organ donation in general is insufficient.
