Diseño de un sistema de conservación para el cantón Rumiñahui


Abstract:

With the aim of contributing to the conservation of biodiversity in the canton Rumiñahui performed research Designing a System of Conservation for the canton Rumiñahui through which it was determined that currently three protected areas exist within the canton: A small size (8.46 %) of Pasochoa Wildlife Refuge and two areas of forest and protective vegetation which together occupy 5.75 % of the area of the canton. The RVS Pasochoa and ABVP Watersheds of the Antisana rivers, Tambo, Tamboyacu and Pita are contiguous with which a biological corridor is formed. Despite the high population density of 500 hab/km2 and there are some species habitat conservation importance. The possibilities of establishing new protected areas in the county are scarce whereas only 75 % have coverage and 24.93 % is grassland. Additionally the canton Rumiñahui has a population of 85,852 inhabitants, equivalent to a population density of 632.75 hab/km2. However, the GADMUR, has an ordinance that seeks to create municipal protected areas. Finally a proposal for the structure and composition of Conservation System for the canton Rumiñahui, which will strengthen the work of the DPA and PDOT the canton Rumiñahui is presented.
