Adaptive and pbkp_redictive control for operating an electronic ballast HID-MH LaMp system without acoustic resonances
Abstract:
High Intensity Discharge Metal Halide lamps are used as light sources in open spaces, such as sport courts and parking lots. However, the acoustic resonance (AR) phenomenon may occur when they are operating at frequencies (between 1 kHz and 1 MHz), which difficults its stable operation. In this work, we propose the use of a novel adaptive and pbkp_redictive control for allowing stable operation and AR free of HID-MH lamps. The mathematical model of the system to be controlled was obtained by adapting a previous method from our investigation group based in a novel PRBS signal, which yielded a normalized root mean square error FIT of 91.43 percent in terms of the simulated and real system response. A development board STM32F4DISCOVERY was used to identify the system and to control the ballast prototype, in order to support the computational requirements of the developed algorithms. Experiments were conducted using both simulations and our prototype, showing a steady state power error lower than 3 percent. The proposed control system allows a stable functional operation on the ballast, avoiding the AR in HID-MH 250 W lamps from different manufacturers.
