Adherence to the treatment of arterial hypertension in older adults

Abstract:

Hypertension or HT, worldwide is classified as a serious health problem, as it leads to various complications for the person who suffers it, this translates into the presentation of other chronic conditions that affect other systems and organs of the body. That said, it is imperative to go to a health pro-fessional who has the duty to assign the appropriate treatment after making the pertinent evaluation, since one of the key aspects of this condition is its asymptomatic na-ture. In the case of Ecuador, this pathology for 2012 was present in 1,373 people per 100,000, in fact, throughout Azuay it accounted for 7.35% of deaths. Under these considerations, it is essential that hypertensive patients fully comply with their assigned treatment, and this is where adherence to treatment comes in, which, although it is the ability of an individual to follow a medication regi-men, there are factors that they have consequences in the observance of the prescribed therapy and the main objective of this work is to identify them. In the end, these are inconveniences that not only affect the doctor and the patient, but also have repercussions on the country’s health system since they generate more expenses in public health, so it is essential to establish strategies and methods focused on counseling, as well as the education of the person with hypertension in special older people.
