Dispositivos SiC en Sistemas de Tracción Eléctrica, Análisis de Eficiencia en Inversores Trifásicos


Abstract:

The properties of silicon carbide devices (SiC) allow work in operation ranges greater than conventional silicon devices (Si) in applications, such as power converters for electric traction systems. Also, SiC devices characteristics open the possibility not only of working at a high switching frequency, and higher temperature range but also reduce the power converters losses. Accordingly, weight and cost of the cooling system can be reduced and the efficiency can be increased. This paper presents an analysis of efficiency between different power converters topologies used in electric traction system and based on silicon carbide devices. The analysis was developed by using simulations of different power converters topologies and realizing a comparison with silicon and silicon carbide devices at 100 kHz of switching frequency. In addition, the power losses for both devices technologies were studied for demonstrating the advantages of Silicon Carbide device in power systems for electric vehicles.
