Distribución Geográfica y Potencial de Bixa orellana L. (achiote) en las provincias de Loja y Zamora Chinchipe.

Abstract:

In the present research we studied the potential geographical distribution of Bixa orellana L. commonly known as achiote in the province of Loja and Zamora Chinchipe analyzed. For geographic distribution models Geographical Information Systems (GIS) were used; for potential distribution of B. orellana and distribution models Maxent modeling method, in which data of occurrence of the species and nineteen bioclimatic variables was used. The projected MaxEnt model represents the accuracy of the model for Bixa orellana in which an AUC (Area Under the Curve) of 0.998, was obtained showing a high statistical significant value. Among the variables that contributed most to the model are precipitation of coldest quarter 37.9%, 27.7% average annual temperature, annual temperature range 7.3%. Depending on the model the species is potentially distributed in the provinces of Loja and Zamora Chinchipe in an altitudinal range of 390-1862 m a.s.l..
