Documentation and dissemination of artistic performance in the digital age
Abstract:
The following text aims to study in greater depth the relationship between performance and new technologies, having an emphasis on the recording and diffusion of such. To the better understanding of the matter, it will be necessary to contextualize the historical background of the origins and the arrival of the digital age and it's influences within the field of the visual arts, and specifically within the performance arts. The work of two artists: Orlan and Amalia Ulman will help illustrate the differences and specific characteristics of the register in performance art, being aware of important elements such as: the virtual space, the simultaneity of the action through the screen, the use of virtual elements, etc. Finally, we will ponder about the challenge that performance art and it's register has to face an audience that is unable to understand reality without the help of technological devices.
