Does Ecuador Prevent Pollution Caused by Ships?


Abstract:

Maritime transport is an important source of sea pollution, which is why active prevention policies are required to minimize or prevent its effects and consequences, specifically in two relevant aspects: operational pollution caused by the manipulation of polluted merchandise and accidental pollution whose control is effected through the international maritime conventions for both the ships and crew. In this context, this investigation presents a synthesis of the issue of the lack of pollution prevention caused by ships in Ecuador, based on a study about compliance with the conventions by the International Maritime Organization, to which Ecuador is a signatory. To this effect, maritime statistics for the world and the coast of Ecuador are presented.
