Drugs as nitrosamine precursors in Cuban conditions
Abstract:
It is pointed out that among the most important problems faced by medicine and, mainly, by current pharmacology is found that comprising evaluation of the risk introduced by new medical means, as well as those already existing. Recently, investigators have faced a new problem, which consists of several drugs that have groups of secondary and tertiary amines within their structures, are able to participate at the synthesis of carcinogenic N-nitro compounds that are formed in the organism. Arguments that have considered the N-nitro compounds as carcinogenics and, therefore, harmful to man, are enough evident. In this review, the most used drugs in Cuba, which because of their structure should be carcinogenic N-nitro compounds precursors are shown. Marked attention is paid to those including aminophenazone in its composition, that together with nitrito forms dimethylnitroamine (DMN) one of the most powerful carcinogenics hitherto studied in animal organism. Some assays related to such an important experimental research performed by several investigators are described.
