Duobinary modulation format for gigabit ehternet SI-POF transmission system

Abstract:

We compared the performances of different modulation formats for the transmission of the Gigabit Ethernet signal over 50m of SI-POF. We demonstrated that duobinary provides the best performances, without any significant increase in implementation complexity. We investigated also the implementation of the duobinary coder, decoder and its proper equalizer over a FPGA, in order to have an experimental confirm of the results achieved by off-line processing.
