Durability and degradation of concrete obtained from binary mixtures of fly ash and steel slag activated alkali

Abstract:

In order to meet the mechanical requirements, design and cost, in the field of civil engineering and producing a lesser impact to the environment in its production of concrete mixtures of steel blast furnace slag and fly ash from power plants they were obtained activated carbon using sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) at a concentration of 5% Na2O. Were evaluated performance durability of concrete by penetration tests chloride ion and compressive strength at 28 days, degradation evaluated corresponds to steel embedded in the ceramic matrix, which was done using techniques measurement of OCP (corrosion potential) and Tafel polarization curves for this track under conditions simulating seawater (3.5% saline is performed for NaCl). We was found that significantly decreased the corrosion rate of the steel samples with higher content of fly ash, the opposite effect reported for the mechanical strength, confirming the good performance of binary mixtures.
