Dynamics of viral encephalitis transmission by mosquitoes
Abstract:
Presented is a model describing the dynamic of the transmission of western equine encephalomyelitis by mosquitoes. With current data collection techniques, traditional point estimates of parameters are not possible. Instead, parameter values are described by statistical distributions. Using these distributions, Monte Carlo simulations are performed to classify outputs as either a typical or nontypical seasonal response. Statistical analysis is used to quantify the importance of given parameter sets in eliciting this seasonal response. The methodologies presented have potential applications in the control of infectious diseases. With the type of data available for disease transmitting arthropods, a more statistical approach to parameter estimation is needed.
